Der Klosteramtmann von Muri übte in den Ämtern Muri, Boswil, Bünzen und Werd im Namen des Abtes die niedere Gerichtsbarkeit aus. Boswil und Bünzen erhielten bereits im 16. Jh. eigene Amtmänner. Josef Leonz Müller, 1813-1817 Mitglied des Grossen Rates im Aargau, war der letzte Amtmann des Klosters in Muri, da 1798 die niedere Gerichtsbarkeit des Abtes aufhörte.
